Support Girls in School Villages to receive Scholarship and Mentorship

Scholarship and Mentorship for Girls in Village Schools A Project of İLKÖĞRETİM OKULLARINA YARDIM VAKFI – İLKYAR

WE LOVE THE CHILDREN IN RURAL AREAS OF TURKEY. WE KNOW THEY ARE INTELLIGENT AND IF GIVEN A CHANCE AND THEY STUDY HARD, THEY WILL BE ATTEND UNIVERSITIES, ESPECIALLY SHOOL GIRLS NEED MORE ATTENTION AS THEY ARE MOSTLY THE ONES LEFT BEHIND WHEN FAMILIES HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN A SON OR DAUGHTER TO ATTEND UNIVERSITIES.

"You have acquired literacy and calculation, that's enough", the father of Sırma said and did not let her go to school. "There are four men at home, I cannot suffice", the mother of Kübra said. Her desk at school was empty. "She has grown tall. What can a grown girl do at school? She should get married and start her own family", the grandfather of Leyla said. Then, Leyla put her pencil away and started to prepare her dowry.

"Songül is getting married in the harvest season. Her father forced her to marry her cousin.", the teacher of Songül said. Heads are lowered with sorrow and the gleam of the eyes disappeared, It was not certain what would happen the next day, whose desk would be empty, or who would lapse into silence.

Which village is this? Whose daughters are they?

Unfortunately, the stories of these girls are real and occur often in the majority of the villages. Most of the village girls are forced to comply with the life that has been determined long before they are born.

Even though some want to be educated and break the chains of traditions, stand on their own two feet, and raise healthy children. As they are regarded as workforce in the family, little financial support can overcome the resistance of those families. Let us support our village girls who firmly hold on to the helping hands and run fearlessly towards the bright light that is far away.

Wouldn't you like to do something for someone, especially for a stranger who is a village schoolgirl in pursuit of her right of education, by smoking fewer cigarettes, drinking fewer cups of coffee or tea, or postponing purchasing the favorite pair of jeans that you are planning to buy?

Why don't you become the light that a wild flower needs?

Wouldn't you like to experience the inexpressible excitement of helping a person you do not know at all or the feeling of "being of service to someone except your family"?

Wouldn't you like to care about their screams and hold on to one of those little hands waiting for help today?

.

We (ILKYAR) has been given scholarship and mentorship for the schoolgirls since 2005. We have started with 20 girls and in these 11 years we have reached 110 girls. More than 150 girls has been graduated from the universities with ILKYAR's scholarship's help. We are waiting for you to support us to support schoolgirls's education.

"The reason why I write this letter is to ask for your help. My sole purpose is to receive education. I am living in such a village that it is impossible to understand its residents. Honor means headscarf, not to step out of the house or not to educate girls in this village. It is dishonorable for two friends to have a talk on the street. The honor of my father and uncle is to sell girls aged 15. Please notice that I have not uttered the word "marry", but "sell". Believe me that my tears are rolling down to my hands dyed with henna while I am writing these words. Let my tears coming from my swollen eyes not wet my letter, not ruin my future. The honor has become to get 3500 Turkish liras bride-price. The father who sells his daughter like a piece of furniture does not give the application fee for today's exam. As the eye of the storm sees only the girls, the storm has hit us plenty of times. We have run out of steam (energy, effort?) to fight with lightning (problems, difficulties?). Thus, we want steam from the seas like you (we call on you to help us).I want to have a profession and come back to this village. I am going to say "Here is my honor, my living, and my profession" to those who regard ignorance as honor. "
