Aegean Association

Mission of Organization

Aegean Association was founded in April 2007 to evaluate ecological and social environment of the Aegean Region. The association aims to define existing problems related to environment and multicultural social structure of the region and to provide practical solutions.

Impact of the Organization

In its first two years, Aegean Association mainly focused on environmental issues and still collaborates with United Nations Development Program, Coca Cola Turkey and World Wild Fund Turkey in various environmental projects in the region.

Aegean association has started "Aegean Rivers" project with the support of Coca-Cola Life Plus Foundation in order to end pollution in Gediz and Menderes Rivers and continues with involvement of WWF into the project. It also took part in "Kids' Orchards" project which was implemented in 4 primary schools in İzmir in collaboration with CAPPY, KİPA and İzmir National Education Directorate. Aegean Association also implemented a project for legal empowerment of NGOs in the region with the support of Royal Netherlands Embassy. Moreover, the association supported a project in Kuşadası where a village called Kirazlı was developed into an ecological village.
However, it also has implemented projects on arts and culture. The founders of the association involve an awarded author, an acclaimed photographer, an acclaimed caricaturist and a collector of music ephemera and records. Aegean Association has already supported publication of a CD-book and development of a memory house on famous singer Dario Moreno and organized a photography exhibition on remnants of İzmir Sephardic culture. Currently, it is in preparation for the implementation of a EU supported music project between İzmir and Bremen cities and hopefully Greek Film Days which will all support Aegean and İzmir urban culture as a whole.
